Ruskin Art Day, by Mr Pugh

Class 3 and 4 worked with Lancaster University to learn about the artist and nature lover John Ruskin. They used sketching, clay and close observation to produce some super art work.

Yesterday, the whole school had a Jubilee day. All the children made, crowns, flags, collage queens and corgis and biscuits.

Paddington in Egypt, by Mrs Barclay

We were very excited to read Paddington's postcard this week. We found out that he was in Egypt. We found Egypt on the world map and had a look at Paddington's photographs. We then decided to make our own pyramids using cups,  a pyramid collage using sandpaper and write our names in hieroglyphics. The highlight of our week was definitely mummy making.

This week Paddington sent us a postcard from Italy. We found out that Paddington went to the Roman colosseum, the leaning tower of Pisa and Venice. This week, we looked at the Italian flag, made our own pizzas, using the ingredients Paddington had sent us, and had a go at making our own gondolas.

This week, Paddington sent Class One a postcard from France. He told us he had been to a french bakery, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre museum. 

We tasted some french pastries, had a go at making the Eiffel Tower and even had a go at painting like Monet. We can't wait to find out where he will be next week!

Paddington in London, by Mrs Barclay

Class 1 were very excited to meet Paddington Bear this week. He told us that he will be travelling to different places around the world and would send us some lovely postcards. On Wednesday we were very excited to see that the first postcard had arrived, all the way from London. Paddington told us about all the sights he has seen and he even had afternoon tea with the queen. Paddington was very kind and sent us some scones to enjoy.

Class 1 have enjoyed learning about the UK and London. We painted our own union jacks, made our own flags and had a go at building Buckingham palace using the junk modelling materials.

Class One were very excited to take their beans home this week. We planted our own bean and for the past few weeks we have observed it and watched it grow. We have looked closely at the changes and recorded these in our own bean diary.

Today, John came into school to share his knowledge of animals and allow the children to see handsone different kinds of animals. The children learnt about classification, evolution, what is an insesct and were able to touch and ask questions about animals.

Classes 3 and 4 have enjoyed a super day at Borwick Activity Centre today. They went canoeing, caving, bouldering, did low ropes and team challenges! Everyone tried really hard and worked as a team! Well done everyone.

Class 2 Nest Building, by Miss Massaro

This afternoon Class 2 were very busy in their groups building bird nests. They used natural materials and worked together to make sure that their nest was built in a safe place! 
The children are so excited to monitor their nests each day, great team work Class 2!

Today it was Class Four's turn to have an art masterclass! Thank you to Emily for our amazing artist workshops over the past couple of weeks. 

Class 4 listened carefully to Emily's instructions and looked at the Blue Tit in lots of detail. We separated our page into 4 and drew the outline first. We then looked at the detail including the eye and the wings. Last, we coloured the blue tit using crayons and used them to mix and build up colours.

This time it was Class Two's turn to have a special visit from the local artist. Emily helped us look at the detail of the Blue Tit and use the crayons effectively to colour the bird. Look at our beautiful creations. 

 

Class 1 and 2 Birds of Prey, by Miss Massaro

On Tuesday, Class One and Two were very lucky and had a special visit from Horus Birds of Prey. They brought along Flint the Southern White-Faced Scops Owl, Matilda the Boobook Owl and Nugget the Bengal Eagle Owl.

The children have remembered lots of interesting facts about the owls and they particularly enjoyed holding Flint.

Class One had a visit from a very special artist called Emily. Emily is a local artist who draws animals and people's pets. She came in to teach us how to sketch animals draw carefully and pay attention to detail. We had a go at drawing our own blue tits and the results were amazing!

Class 1 have been learning all about plants, animals and their habitats. We were very excited to go on our trip up the crag with B the ranger. On our trip, we listened to and looked out for different birds, made nests and matched animals with their habitats. 

Our learning carried on back at school and we made our own bird feeders using pine cones, lard and bird seeds. We listened to and followed the instructions carefully. 

 

KS1 Athletics, by Mr Pugh

Year 1 and 2 had a successful afternoon at the Carnforth KS1 Athletics competition. Taking part in track and field events - a sort of mini Olympics - they all performed really well. Overall, we came 2nd out of 8 local schools and Owen Price was voted Best Athlete of the day by the competition leaders. Well done Class 2 - a top effort!

What an fabulous World Book Day we had on Thurdsay March 3rd 2022. We had a character parade, an author visit and read with our friends in different classes. 

RE WEEK: Hinduism Workshop, by Mr Pugh

We had a great day learning all about Hinduism. We dressed up as gods and learned all about how Hindu followers worship. 

Class 2 outdoor learning, by Miss Massaro

Class 2 had the opportunity to go out in the sunshine as part of our Maths lesson. We have been studying arrays and we used different number sentences to make our own arrays using cones. The children worked very well together and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of learning outside the classroom.

As part of our science topic, Class 4 received a visit from the planetarium team at Lancaster Univeristy. They wowed us with their interactive journey through space before we got to make our planets designed by the children in our class. What an amazing day!

Class 4 have recently taken part in an inter-school archery competition. We had some impressive archers with  Kacey and Katie pulling in some of our highest scores! A few Robin Hoods in the making!!,
